All StarZ Staffing is hiring a Heavy Duty / Diesel Mechanic for an immediate opening at the Bangor Naval Base near Bremerton & Silverdale, WA. We’re looking for someone with diesel engine and heavy equipment repair experience to maintain and repair a wide range of heavy-duty vehicles and diesel engines. Keep essential vehicles and equipment running smoothly for vital base operations. This is a full-time contract opportunity.

 

Pay for the Heavy Duty / Diesel Mechanic:

  • $35+ per hour, depending on experience

 

Job Location:

  • Bangor Naval Base near Bremerton & Silverdale, WA, with easy access to SR 3
  • Bus line accessible: Kitsap Transit provides service directly to Naval Base Kitsap – Bangor
  • Enjoy on-base convenience with restaurants and a mini-mart available.

 

Schedule for the Heavy Duty / Diesel Mechanic:

  • Monday – Friday
  • Day shift

Heavy Duty / Diesel Mechanic Duties:

  • Diagnose & Overhaul: Diagnose, adjust, repair, and overhaul buses, trucks, and various diesel engines.
  • Perform Comprehensive Maintenance: Conduct scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, including oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication for diverse equipment
  • Maintain Diverse Fleet: Repair and maintain trucks, buses, emergency response vehicles, trailers, heavy equipment (e.g., locomotives, bulldozers, generators), and armored personnel carriers
  • Engine & System Repair: Repair and replace diesel engines and their subassemblies (air, cooling, starting, charging systems), along with vehicle chassis, electrical, drive train, brake, and hydraulic systems
  • Fabrication & Rebuilding: Repair and rebuild broken parts and structural members using welding and other fabrication techniques
  • Certified System Maintenance: Maintain and repair certified systems like fire apparatus and bucket trucks according to manufacturer and customer procedures
  • Operational Diagnostics: Operate and inspect machines to diagnose component defects and verify repairs
  • Specialized Equipment Operation: Operate heavy lift towing and recovery equipment following approved procedures
  • Parts Research & Ordering: Identify and research replacement parts for order
  • Compliance & Standards: Dismantle and reassemble equipment to OEM specifications and Navy standards, using various lifting equipment, hand and pneumatic tools
  • Inspection & Measurement: Examine equipment and parts for damage and wear using calibrated measuring tools

 

Heavy Duty / Diesel Mechanic Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 4 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic in commercial or governmental repair work.
  • Diesel Engine Expertise: Full knowledge and ability to troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, associated power trains, air and hydraulic brake systems, and all other vehicular component parts.
  • Electrical & Computer Systems: Working knowledge and ability to diagnose automotive electrical and computer-controlled systems.
  • Required Tools: Must possess and maintain hand tools of the trade.
  • Licensing:
    • Valid Washington State Driver’s License with acceptable driving record
    • Valid Washington State commercial “A” or “B” CDL.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Security Clearance: Ability to pass a thorough background check to obtain and maintain required security clearance for base access
  • Communication: Strong communication skills for a service team environment.
  • S. Citizenship: Required for federal contract and base access
